Decks, patios & pergolas
Outdoor living is a big part of life along the Murray, and summers here are hot and dry. A deck or pergola has to cope with that: correct footings, the right timber or composite for full sun, and fixings that won't rust or work loose.
What we build
- Hardwood, treated pine and composite decks
- Raised and multi-level decks, steps and balustrades
- Pergolas and patio covers, attached or freestanding
- Deck repairs, re-boarding and restoration
- Footings and subframes, including site preparation with our own machinery
How we approach it
Getting the subframe right is what makes a deck last. We set footings to suit the soil, space joists to the manufacturer's span tables for the board you choose, and leave proper ventilation underneath so timber can dry out.
In rural and bush-edge areas, decks may need to meet a Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) rating under Australian Standard AS 3959, which affects which materials can be used. We check this before you choose materials. Larger decks and pergolas may also need council approval.
Kodee holds a contractor licence issued by NSW Fair Trading and is currently working towards his builder's licence. Where a job needs a licensed builder or a licensed trade such as plumbing or electrical, we tell you upfront. About licensing
Common questions
Hardwood, treated pine or composite?
Hardwood looks great but needs regular oiling in full sun. Treated pine is the budget option. Composite costs more upfront but needs very little maintenance. We'll take you through the trade-offs for your site.
Do I need council approval for a deck or pergola?
Sometimes. It depends on height, size, location on the block and your council. We'll tell you what we know at the quote and you can confirm with your council's planning department.
Can you repair my old deck instead of replacing it?
Often, yes. If the subframe is sound we can replace boards and failed sections. We'll check the frame and footings first.
